ENOPHONES

Enophones are one of those rare devices that actually feel like they’ve been designed by people who get it. At face value they’re just a set of over-ear headphones, but underneath they’re running a full EEG system. That means you can listen to music or podcasts while the headset is tracking your brain activity in real time. Unlike a lot of “EEG headbands” that feel flimsy or toy-like, these look and wear like proper cans.

Sound Quality

Let’s get this out of the way first: the sound quality is actually very good. The drivers are made by Onkyo, and you can hear the difference. Most people online who criticise the audio are comparing them to consumer brands like Beats, which smash the bass to make a quick impression. Enophones aren’t tuned like that. They give you a balanced, clean signal that works well for long listening sessions, whether that’s music, podcasts, or using the integrated focus sessions in the app. I’ve used them for hours at a time without fatigue.

EEG + App Integration

The real selling point here is the brain tracking. Inside the cups are dry electrodes that sit against your scalp. They measure EEG signals which feed into the Enophones app. This gives you metrics on focus, calm, and engagement over time. The app is clean and well designed — you can jump into a “focus session” that tracks your brain state as you work, then see clear graphs afterwards of how your attention rose and fell.

I’ll add some screenshots of the app here so you can see how it looks in practice. It’s not bloated, which I like. You get exactly what you need: focus data, historical trends, and some simple coaching cues. It’s usable day one without any steep learning curve.

Daily Use

They connect over Bluetooth, work as a normal headset, and once you’ve got the fit right the EEG is surprisingly reliable. I’ve tested them in different environments — working at my desk, meditating, even while walking — and the data holds up. No fiddly gels, no complicated setup, just put them on and go. That’s what makes them practical compared to most EEG gear.

Verdict

For me, the value is in having a device I can actually wear daily without feeling like I’m strapped into a science experiment. Enophones deliver real-time brain tracking with solid audio quality in a package that feels normal to use. If you care about measuring focus and state shifts but don’t want to compromise on sound or comfort, they’re an easy recommendation.
